Les Frères Jumeaux / Twin Brothers
Text: Anne Calas

I shall force the sun to change its course, to set in the east
and I’ll say fuck, fuck you
and bring your children slowly to a boil
and in your ignorance
will make you eat them, chew and digest them
I shall let you tranquilly take delight
and upon the feast table I will place
their two pubescent heads
all dripping at the end of the meal
and you will be quite surprised
the fine prank
the lovely joke
and each of us carnivorous, rips in with zest
and each takes delight
and you, you cry with rage
and you, you despair
and me, I am out to get you
I will eat you alive
subtract you into saliva
pulverize you into stomach
so there
and don’t come back hanging around pitifully behind my door
and don’t come back screaming
and don’t come back trembling like a plume in the hero’s headgear
and don’t come back anymore chewing paper tits
and don’t come back anymore spreading old vomit
on the edges of the clouds that float
in the smoking salon of our uncles from America
and if I am damned
it’s too bad.

Twin Brothers

Work inspired by the myth of Atreus and Thyeste, The Twin Brothers addresses, through the theme of the fratricidal struggle, the question of acceptance of the Other, despite the inherent strife that arises from its existence next to our own. This co-existing entity, so similar yet so different; this immortal double, the Soul.

How can one accept to share power, love and recognition from the Mother? How does one stay ahead and expel the other. How does one become the sole recipient of love and acknowledgement and remain its main point of focus? Where and when does this fight start, which is fueled by resentment and revenge and what are the limits of this cruelty?

The Twin Brothers, a dreamlike metaphor of our inner animal and most archaic instincts, entails the enjoyment felt in cruelty and our ability to reveal and accept it, thus enabling a perhaps undeserved catharsis. Acting as a cinematographic book, the Twin Brothers video proposes a liberating and introspective reflection where urban night and inner space intersect and interact to better reflect the questions and impulses inherent to the human condition.
